Furthering her work in support of arts education, First Lady Mrs. O hosted a workshop for classical music students at the White House this afternoon.
For the event, Mrs. O chose a gray tweed suit. We particularly love the folded detail at the back of the jacket and a french twist for an extra dash of polish. We will investigate the designer and report back.
Update: Mrs. O wears a jacket and skirt by Thakoon.

We can’t wait to find out what it is! Read more about Mrs. O’s upcoming cameo on the Iron Chef, here.
Sadly we can’t use the photo, but it’s a lovely one! Mrs. O wears a Liz Claiborne dress, paired with a Hattie Carnegie brooch from the Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection.

Why do designers typically refuse to design for sizes above 10? This question is not meant to be confrontational; I’ve just always wondered about this. Is it simply a prejudice? Wouldn’t it be a good business decision? I can understand not wanting to start a stand-alone plus-size line, but what about extending sizes to 14/16? We have money, too! —Daphne L. Scott, Chicago
We do offer larger sizes at Versace, but I take your point. I certainly wouldn’t want to do a plus-size line, as I have no problem with women of any size wearing my clothes. I guess some styles lend themselves to being scaled up, while some others just don’t work. Sometimes it can depend on the specific piece.
By being a fashion student/designer I can totally understand her reasoning, but at the same time I think that extending the sizes might bring in more revenue for the big fashion houses. Most designers pick out a target person that they are designing for, a target lifestyle and gear all of their designs toward that model. Our perception of beauty sometimes overshadows our reality.

Not been affected whatsoever by the recession? Read on. You’ll need all the extra coins you have to get hold of this piece. At $1,045, it’s not one for the ‘nouveau rich’ as Karl Lagerfeld would say. It sounds odd to say, but fashion isn’t in fashion right now – so carrying a Givenchy backpack might not be the way to go if you’re rocking a workwear-inspired look. Everyone else is free to rock this to their heart’s content. You won’t be ‘on point’ or ‘bang on trend’, but you’ll have a good bag.

I personally think this bag is dope, a little pricey but it will definitely give you an edge over the JanSports out there.

The designer, and now film director, finally acknowledged on the record he’s returning to the women’s arena and confirmed he and his longtime business partner and Tom Ford International chairman Domenico De Sole are on the hunt for financing.
Ford, in town to promote his new film, “A Single Man,” and make a personal appearance at his new men’s shop in the Isetan department store, said he plans to launch the Tom Ford brand’s first women’s collection “very soon,” although he declined to specify a date. Sources told WWD earlier this month that, depending on financing, Ford was eyeing a launch of a women’s line as early as fall 2010.
“Financing is extremely expensive right now, so if we find financing in the right situation we’ll be able to start [a women’s collection] soon. If we don’t, we may have to wait a while,” Gucci’s former creative director told WWD in an interview from a 50th floor suite of the Park Hyatt Hotel with an expansive view of the city skyline.
Recent reports estimate Ford and De Sole are seeking $50 million or more to fund a women’s collection and that Credit Suisse is leading the process. De Sole, who is also in Tokyo, declined to discuss the financials of the privately held company except to state that Ford’s stores in Osaka, Tokyo and Seoul are performing strongly.
“We have the advantage of being a younger brand that’s in a growing mode,” De Sole said.
Ford contended his men’s wear label is outpacing most of its competitors in the recession and he’s optimistic the luxury goods market is on its way to recovery.
“Things are getting better every day in most places,” Ford said, clad in a black suit and a white shirt. “So I’m optimistic and this is something that I plan on doing for the next 30 years of my life, so if I have to wait another six months or a year [to launch women’s], it’s OK.”

Kanye released his book, GLOW IN THE DARK, this week from his Glow in the Dark Tour. I appreciate his contribution to Hip Hop, Fashion and Artistic Culture. They say really talented people are some what crazy. Well if that’s true, then Yezzy is outta his fucking mind and the whole world loves it. His whole team, from his beautiful girlfriend to his boys, have been big contributors to PERSONA. I will ride with Yezzy and his team til’ the wheels fall off because direct and indirectly they have helped me. My 7 year old son asked me the other day, “Dad can I be like Kanye West?” I gazed at him, smiled and said “Why not?… but it’s gonna be tough.”
He acknowledged, “I know but, I’m Amazing So Amazing.”
